411 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MOFFAT, J. Melvin Melvin was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 15, 1895. He enlisted in the 15th Battalion – 48th Highlanders on September 2, 1915 serving in England and Belgium during World War I. Melvin achieved the rank of company Quartermaster Sergeant but gave it up to fight in the trenches. He saw action in Ypres. Melvin was discharged in 1919 and became Mayor of Galt after his return to civilian life. He was granted the Centennial Medal in 1968 in recognition of his many lifetime public service accomplishments following his war time service. He was a member of Galt Legion Branch 121. Melvin passed away on September 2, 1980. MONTGOMERY, Daniel Daniel was born in Laird Township, Ontario on December 9, 1921. He enlisted in the Army on August 6, 1941 and was discharged on March 6, 1946. He served during World War II with the Tank Corps and during the Korean War with the Black Watch. After his discharge, he returned to Algoma, worked on railways as well as a lumberman. MONTELEONE, Frank Frank was born in South Porcupine, Ontario on January 17, 1932. He enlisted in the Air Force on October 26, 1949. Frank was a crewman on Dakota A/C. He toured Canada in 1959 with the Golden Hawks as an Aero Engine Tech and served with 4 Wing in Germany from 1964 to 1968. He spent four years as quality control tech at Dehavilland A/C in Toronto. Frank was discharged on July 1, 1979.
