401 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McNAUGHTON, Edward Bryson Bryson was born in Toronto on May 25, 1921. He enlisted in the Army in March 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps in England, Europe, Central Mediterranean, France and Germany during World War II. He was a member of the 7th Canadian Anti-Tank unit. Following their action in Italy, the unit landed in France and worked their way to Holland and Germany. He later reenlisted for the Pacific arena. He was discharged on December 4, 1945. Post war he worked for Ontario Hydro then as an electrician for a private company in Muskoka. He earned the CVSM and Clasp, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Service Badge, Good Conduct Badge, and Pacific Volunteer Badge. He was presented with the Dutch Medal of Remembrance in 2002. He was a founding member of RCL 489. He passed away on April 13, 2002. McQUEEN, Hugh Murray Murray was born on September 1, 1894 in Petrolia, Ontario, the eldest child of Alex McQueen and Susan Luckham. He graduated from Petrolia High School, attended St. Andrew’s College and was active in the Militia. He enlisted in the Army on February 15, 1916. Murray took a commission in the 70th Battalion, CEF and to insure a place with that battalion when it went overseas on April 30, 1916, he reverted to the rank of private. His determination to get to France as quickly as possible prompted his transfer to the 58th Battalion, with whom he crossed the Channel soon after his arrival in England. He went all through the heavy fighting in the summer of 1916, and was wounded at the Somme. Recovering, he returned to France, but was gassed during the winter campaign. While convalescent in England, he was offered an appointment on the instructor’s staff. This he turned down because he believed himself too fit for such work. During the last six months he saw much strenuous fighting, and was continually in the trenches until he was killed in action on September 30, 1918, in Cambrai, France. McPHERSON, James James was born in West Williams Township, Ontario on September 22, 1909. He was amongst the first group of Forest, Ontario men to enlist in the R.C.E. on September 19, 1939, following the outbreak of World War II. He completed his basic training at Petawawa, Ontario and was deployed to England in the summer of 1940. James served his country in England in the postal service and seeing to the wellbeing of all his friends who went overseas with him. He lived to be an elderly gentleman in the town of Forest and marched in the Remembrance Day parades to honour those who had gone before. He was a member of the Forest Legion Branch 176. James passed away on September 21, 1990.
