387 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McDOUGALD, Duncan I. Duncan was born in Amabel Township on December 10, 1897. He enlisted in the Army on March 31, 1916 and served with the 160th Battalion in France and Belgium during World War I. He was discharged on April 22, 1919 and returned to Canada on the SS 46 Seaford. Duncan moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he became a farm feed salesman for Mormon Feeds. He has been a member of Tara Legion Branch 383. Duncan passed away on March 9, 1989. McFARLANE, William Earl William was born in Tobermory, Ontario in 1889. He enlisted in the Army on June 16, 1916 and served with the 160th Bruce Battalion in France during World War I. He suffered a serious leg wound in France. Following his discharge on May 28, 1919, he worked in lumber camps in Northern Ontario and as a carpenter in Tobermory until he had to have his leg amputated because of his war injuries. He was a member of Tobermory Legion Branch 290. William passed away on January 24, 1966. McDOUGALD, Ernest H. “Ernie” Ernie was born in Amabel Township, Ontario on August 7, 1896. He enlisted in the Army on January 21, 1918 and served with the 160th Battalion in France and Belgium during World War I. Ernie was stricken with Diphtheria in March 1919 and was back on active duty within the month. He sailed home to Canada on May 28, 1919 on the HNT Regina. After the war, he farmed the family farm in Arran Township until his retirement in 1957. Bill married Sadie Trelford in 1925 and they had two children, Jean and Bill. Ernie was a member of the Anglican Church in Tara as well as a member of the Tara Legion Branch 383 for 43 years. Ernie passed away in 1989.
