369 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MARCHAND, Sylvio J. G. S. “Vio” Vio was born in Thetford Mines, Quebec on February 20, 1941. He enlisted in the Air Force on February 5, 1962 and reported to Saint Jean, QC (School of English and Basic Training) (Aircraftsman Second Class) on February 18. In the fall of 1962, he went to Clinton, ON to attend the communications Operator Course and graduated in May 1963 and was posted to 3 (Fighter) Wing, Zweibrücken, Germany (Leading Aircraftsman). In October 1964 Vio came to Canada to marry Gisele and then took his new bride to Zweibrücken where they had two children. Corporal Marchand was given a number of postings: Rockcliffe, ON; Nanaimo, BC; CFS Senneterre, QC; CFS Chibougamau, Quebec; CFB Montreal; Canadian Forces Communications Command Headquarters at Tunney’s Pastures in Ottawa; CFB Borden; CFB Lahr, Germany; Defence Headquarters as the Career Manager for the Communications and Electronics Engineers Majors. Sergeant Marchand retired from the Canadian Forces in 1995, and moved to Barrie, ON in 1997. He has been a member of W.C. (Bill) Little, M.M. Legion Branch 147 for five years. MARK, Robert Robert was born in Maxville, Ontario on October 5, 1933. He enlisted in the Army on May 9, 1951. He served with the Queen’s Own Rifles in Hanover, Germany during Peacetime. Robert was discharged on January 18, 1954. He has been a member of Heather Legion Branch 357 for 35 years. MARCOTTE, John W. John was born in Cobalt, Ontario on April 4, 1926. He enlisted in the Army in September 1943 and served with the Canadian Infantry, #2 District Depot in Canada during World War II. Private John Marcotte was discharged on January 15, 1945 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal and the War Service Badge. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for over thirty years. John passed away on August 28, 2008.
