367 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MacRAE, Jamie Duncan Jamie was born in Powassan, Ontario on September 5, 1911. He enlisted in the Army and joined the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in 1943. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom and France during World War II. Pte MacRae’s unit took part in the Falaise Gap operation in Normandy, France. He was killed by a bursting artillery round fired by the enemy on August 14, 1944 less than 24 hours after his brother Dougald died over Warsaw while piloting an RAF bomber. Jamie left behind a wife and daughter in Canada. A monument was dedicated to their memory near MacRae Rock on Wah-Wash-Kesh Lake in the Municipality of Whitestone, District of Parry Sound, Ontario. MANNS, Richard A. A. Richard was born in Shirley, Township of Scugog, Ontario on June 6, 1924. He enlisted in the Army on July 27, 1943 in Woodstock, ON. He served in Canada until his discharge on August 2, 1946. Richard was awarded the 1939-45 Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. After his discharge, Richard declined the head chef position at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto to resume civilian life with his family in the Port Perry area. Richard passed away on October 24, 1995. MALOTT, Jack H. Jack was born in Ruthven, Ontario on August 23, 1919. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on July 12, 1941 and served in Canada and England during World War II. Some of Jack’s postings included RCAF Station Centralia, Ontario; Camp Borden; and RCAF Station La Magaza, Quebec. He was also stationed overseas in England where he was stationed at RAF Station Langer, Nottinghamshire. He served as a driver and a trainer. He was discharged on March 28, 1970. His decorations include the Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp, the Defense Medal, the Special Service Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the 1939-45 War Medal. He was a member of Leamington Legion Branch 84 for over 42 years. Jack passed away on February 7, 2012.
