363 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MACKIE, J. C. Eldon Eldon was born in Kitley Township, Leeds County on January 26, 1925. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery on January 10, 1944 and served in Canada, United Kingdom, and Continental Europe during World War II. He was awarded the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 193945. Eldon was discharged on June 27, 1946. He has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Toledo Branch 475 for 66 years and was a founding member. MacMASTER, Glenn J. Glenn was born in Port Perry, Ontario on April 27, 1922. In 1944, when he was eighteen, like many other patriotic, healthy, young men he enlisted to go to war. Glenn’s progress through the Royal Canadian Air Force was rapid as leadership came easy to him. He was killed in action on December 9, 1942 in Halifax. His death came as a shock to his family. Glenn was just one of Canada’s sacrifices made during World War II. The deeds that our veterans did for freedom will never be forgotten. MacMASTER, Archibald Archibald was born in Glengarry, Ontario on December 27, 1918 and came to Port Perry with his mother on the train at nine days of age. They joined his father a veterinarian and his older brother. He was raised in Port Perry and lived there all of his life, marrying a local girl, Marian Brent, and raising three daughters. Archibald joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signal in 1942 and served in North Africa and Italy during World War II. He was discharged in 1945. He was a member of Port Perry Legion Branch 419. Archibald passed away on April 27, 2009.
