345 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LEWIS, Elmer E. Elmer was born on July 5, 1921. He enlisted in the Army on August 25, 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Artillery, 5th Medium Regiment in Canada, United Kingdom, Continental Europe, and Central Mediterranean Area during World War II. He was discharged on January 21, 1946 and received the Canadian Forces Award for twelve years Meritorious Service. After the war, he worked at General Motors in Oshawa for thirty years. Elmer has been a member of Oshawa Legion Branch 43 for over 25 years. LIVINGSTONE, John A. John was born on April 5, 1886. John and William Livingstone were brothers born in Elmwood, Ontario. John joined the 147th Grey battalion on May 11, 1916, shortly after his brother William. After training in England, he landed in France as a member of the Canadian Mounted Rifles. He fought through France during World War I and was discharged on March 20, 1919, one week before his brother and returned to Canada. He passed away on October 27, 1920 and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery. LIBBY, Richard A. Richard was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 25, 1916. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1939 and served in Canada, United Kingdom, Sicily, Italy, and Northern Africa during World War II. Sapper Libby was wounded twice, first in the landings of Sicily and again in Italy. After convalescing in North Africa, he was sent back to England, where he helped maintain boiler equipment in that hospital. It turned out that Richard became a professional Stationary Engineer back in Canada, until his retirement. Richard was discharged in 1945 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Defence Medal, 1939-45 Medal. Richard passed away on November 20, 2000.
