343 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LESLIE, Alan William Alan was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 26, 1950. He joined the Navy in September 1968 at the age of 18. He spent 21 years serving in ships and shore units in and around Halifax. During his 12 plus years at sea, he visited many European ports. He spent his 20th birthday and was issued his first “TOT” in Naples, Italy, one of two visits to Italy. While serving in HMCS Huron the ship escorted the Governor General of Canada to all Scandinavian capitals. Alan also got to visit many ports in the Caribbean and the USA. Alan retired as Chief Petty Officer Second Class. He worked with Radars and computer systems. Retiring in May 1989 to take part in a major upgrade program, “TRUMP” for the Tribal class destroyers. This led to a twenty plus year career teaching industrial computer maintenance and programing in Canada and the USA. Alan and his wife of 46 years (Coralee) are fully retired. They live in a retirement community near Barrie, Ontario. Alan is very active in his Legion Branch, Sir Winston Churchill Legion Branch 3. LEVESQUE, Edward William Edward was born in Arnprior, Ontario on July 12, 1920. He joined the Prince of Whales Own Regiment in 1941. Eddie was a cook in the Army during the Second World War. After his retirement from service, he moved back to Arnprior where he got married and raised five sons. He was employed at Kenwood Mills for 39 years and retired at 65. Following his retirement Eddie volunteered at the Galilee Mission Centre where he worked as a handyman for twenty years. In July 2015, he turned 95 and has been a member of the Arnprior Legion Branch 174, for 65 years. He is known to his friends and family as “Fast Eddie”, and continues to live his life to the fullest. LESPERANCE, William C. William was born in Tecumseh, ON on January 8, 1935. He left home at age 17 and joined the Army on November 26, 1952 in London, ON. He was assigned to the 2nd Rifle Battalion for basic training, and to Wainwright, AB for advanced training. He served in Korea with the 2nd Bn Queen’s Own Rifles. After his release, he joined civilian life again but soon realised how much he missed serving his country so reenlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. L/Cpl. Lesperance had many postings, such as Cyprus in 1964 with the UN Peacekeepers, Chilliwack, BC, CSF Holberg and CFB London. He was released on September 14, 1976 and was awarded the Canada Korea Medal, United Nations Medal for Korea, United Nations Service Medal for Cyprus, Peace Keeper’s Medal, and the Canadian Decoration Medal for long service. William has been married to Rose for 50 years. He has been a member of Forest Legion Branch 176 for 15 years and has been the Veteran’s Service Officer for the past 10 years.
