337 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LEARD, Harold Charles Harold was born in Central Bedeque, Prince Edward Island on a dairy farm on September 15, 1923. Before enlisting in the RCAF on January 15, 1943, he worked at a war supply factory in Nova Scotia. After technical training in St. Thomas, Ontario for a number of months he served in the RCAF bomber Command Group 6 in Yorkshire, England for the duration of World War II as an instrument technician and recalls driving for the bomb depots for loading onto the planes. Harold was discharged on March 8, 1946. His air force training gave him his start in mechanical instrumentation and he used these skills later in a long career at Toledo Scale Company. He has been a Royal Canadian Legion member at Apsley Branch 381 for 68 years. LEDINGHAM, George Gerie George was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 1, 1915. He enlisted in the Army on January 21, 1943 and served with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment during World War II. Corporal George G. Ledingham was wounded three times in less than six months. The first time by shell fragments in the Netherlands, the second time by machine gun bullets in France and the third by shrapnel in Belgium. Theatres of Service were Canada, Great Britain and Northwest Europe. For this he was rewarded with the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and War Medal 1939-45. George was discharged on October 9, 1945. LEBLANC, Joseph Joseph was born in St Anselme, New Brunswick on March 1, 1921. He enlisted in the Army in Moncton, NB on March 11, 1942. He was a dispatch rider and served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean area and Continental Europe with the No 7, District Depot. He received the Defence Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was married in September 1946. He, his wife and young family moved to Ontario in 1951. He attended Vocational Training Corporation and became a gas and electrical welder. He helped raise a son and three daughters. Joseph passed away on June 17, 1992.
