335 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LE ROY, James R. “Jim” James was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 28, 1962. He enlisted in the Army on September 15, 1979 and served with both the Queen’s York Rangers Regiment and the cadet corps. While serving with the cadets, he earned his Gold Star and jump wings. Jim served with the regiment as a driver, crewman and gunner. He was discharged on December 30, 1984. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Cindy and they have been married for 23 years. Jim has one child, Thomas. He has been a member of East Toronto Legion Branch 11 for 25 years. LEACH, Reuben M. Reuben was born in Brooke Township, Lambton County, Ontario on February 6, 1898. He attested with the 63rd Battalion in London, Ontario. He was assigned to the 1st Canadian Division, 1st Divisional Ammunition Column bringing ammunition up the lines at Vimy Ridge. After Vimy, he was assigned to the 1st Brigade Canadian Field Artillery, 4th Battery as a gunner. He saw action during World War I at the Battle of Arleux, Third Battle of the Scarpe, Hill 70, Passchendaele, Amiens, Drocourt-Queant, Canal du Nord and Cambrai and the Army of Occupation in Germany after the Armistice. He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. He was gassed several times and suffered from deafness from firing the guns. He served from July 18, 1916 to April 24, 1919. Reuben returned to London and married and had one child. He worked at Murray Selby Shoes as a shoe manufacturer in London. He was a member of the Great War Veterans Association and was one of the first members of the Tweedsmuir Legion Branch 279. Reuben passed away on October 30, 1963. LE ROY, Robert G. K. “Bob” Bob was born in Leamington, Ontario on July 30, 1923. He enlisted in the Air Force on March 27, 1941. He served with the RCAF, Bomber Command as a Navigator in Canada, England, France and Germany during World War II. Bob held the rank of Flying Officer. He was discharged on September 30, 1945. After the war, he went to Queen’s University and graduated with a B. Sc. And went to Rensselaer University where he got his M.B.A. He married Mary Mills in 1948 and they had three daughters. Bob passed away on March 27, 1999.
