327 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LAIRD, James Russel James was born in Thedford, Ontario on February 5, 1925. He enlisted in the Army on May 12, 1942 and served with the Fox Troop 112th BTY, 6th Regiment, RCA (AF) during World War II. He served 39 months overseas as RCA Gunner in the United Kingdom and North West Europe, his last four months overseas were served as Regimental Police. James met Hendrika, a girl from Nijmegen, Holland, and they got married. James was awarded in respect of service the 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45, France and Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a Life Member of Forest Legion Branch 176. James passed away on March 9, 2013. LANDRY, Andre Cyril “Andy” Andy was born in Ottawa, Ontario on March 18, 1934. He enlisted in the Navy on September 8, 1953 and served on HMCS Carleton, Cornwallis, Shearwater, Magnificent, Bonaventure, and Cape Scott. Andy Landry was an Able Seaman Weapons Air and worked with Sidewinder Missiles on aircraft carriers. He married Lucy Landry in 1962 and raised five children. He was discharged on September 7, 1963 and went on to work at Wolverine Tube in London for 24 years. Andy passed away on May 5, 2000. LAMONT, Ronald D. Ronald was born in Brant Township near Elmwood, Ontario on December 11, 1921. He attended school at #10 Brant following which he farmed until he joined the Army in Toronto on May 15, 1944. After training at Ipperwash and in northern Ontario, he was shipped overseas in early 1945 as a member of the 48th Highlanders. He fought in Italy, France and Holland during World War II. He was wounded near Apeldoorn, Holland, spending time in the hospital. When released the war had ended but he spent the following year as a member of the Occupation Army, returning to Canada in 1946. He was discharged on November 13, 1940. He married Isla four years later and together they raised three daughters. Isla passed away in 2008. He worked as a store clerk and retired as a road Supt for the township. Ronald was one of three brothers who served in WWII. Howard served in Canada and Stu was the member of the Black Watch who took part in the infamous Dieppe Raid. He was one of the lucky ones who escaped capture and got back to England. He later fought also in Holland. Howard now resides in the Village Seniors Community in Hanover. Ronald has been a member of Hanover Legion Branch 130 for over fifty years.
