303 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND JAMES, Joseph H. Joseph was born in Tonyrefail, Wales on May 25, 1916. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and trained at Dafoe RCAF #5 Bombing and Gunnery School in Saskatchewan. He served in Canada and in England during World War II. In 1944, he was transferred to London, England. He was discharged in 1945. After the war ended, he returned to Canada and he and his wife, Margaret, operated a 650 acre fruit and dairy farm outside of Fredericton, New Brunswick. They had four daughters, eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Joseph passed away on October 22, 2009. JARVIS, Frederick Richard “Fred” Fred was born in Ottawa on June 6, 1924. He served in World War II, enlisting in the Army in June 1941 and was assigned to the 17th Field Artillery from Winnipeg and served in the 5th Division Signal Corps attached to the Artillery. He served in England, Italy, France, Holland and Germany. He also served for a one year period in occupation in Germany when the war ended. He returned to Canada and was discharged on September 8, 1946. He has been a member of the Westboro Legion in Ottawa within the last ten years and celebrated his 90th birthday on June 6, 2014. JAMES, Margaret J. Margaret was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick on August 3, 1918. She enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in London, England during the war serving as an administrative secretary for the Royal Canadian Air Force. Her office was adjacent to Harrods department store. In 1944, she married Joseph James, who was also in the RCAF, in Hammersmith, England and after the war, they moved back to Canada. They operated a fruit and dairy farm outside of Fredericton, NB for fifteen years. They had four daughters, eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
