295 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HULL, Norman F. Norman was born in Burleigh Township, Peterborough County, Ontario on July 17, 1919. He enlisted in the Navy on May 21, 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Service aboard the HMS Liverpool as a Stoker 1st Class on the high seas during World War II. Norman was killed in action on June 14, 1942 in the Straits of Gibraltar. HUMPHREY, Howard Leroy Howard was born in Mt Brydges on November 24, 1922. He enlisted in the Navy on July 10, 1942 and served on HMCS Niobe, Milltown, Montcalm, Nipigon, Peregrine, Cornwallis, and Stadacona during World War II. He served on the High Seas, North Atlantic and in France and Germany. AB Seaman Howard Humphrey was a radar operator. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the War Medal, and the War Service Badge General Service. After his discharged on September 4, 1945, Howard returned home, married Dorothy Jean Herrington and had three children. He worked for both the CPR and was a conductor on the CNR until retirement. Howard passed away on February 28, 1991. HUMPHREY, Earle Alexander Earle was born in Mt. Brydges on May 16, 1891. He enlisted in the Army on December 28, 1915 and served with the 1st Canadian Machine Gun Battalion, 125 and 135 Battalion as a signaller in France and England during World War I. He was awarded the Victory Medal, British War Medal for Bravery in the Field. Earle was discharged on May 5, 1919. Upon returning from the war, he worked for the CPR where he lost his left hand in a freak accident. He remained single and became a hunter, fisherman and handyman. Earle passed away on November 6, 1962.
