291 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HUARD, Robert J. L. Robert was born in Montreal, QC on July 11, 1925. He enlisted in the RCAF on May 10, 1943 in Montreal and served in Canada during World War II as a Leading Aircraftman with the British Common Wealth Air Training Plan after being refused transfer to Aircrew. After the Victory in Europe, Robert volunteered for the Pacific, however Japan surrendered. In early March 1946, he shipped to Germany via London and attached to the RAF No. 4 MREU searching for allied aircrew missing after being shot down over the British zone in the Ruhr Valley area. He returned to Canada in September 1947 and was discharged on September 24 at Rockcliffe Air Base in Ontario. He was accepted to attend University on a DVA Grant. While at university, Robert joined the RCASC Reserve as an officer Cadet and trained in the summers at Camp Borden, Ontario. He married Marguerite on June 4, 1949 and had two sons, François and Pierre. He has been widowed since June 1985 and is now enjoying retirement in Ottawa with the help of CVA VIP Program. Robert has been a member of Eastview Legion Branch 462 for thirteen years. HUGHES, Donald Charles Donald was born in Glasgow, Scotland on May 10, 1920. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939 and served in England during World War II. He served three tours as a tail gunner on Lancasters. After his discharge in 1945, he married and had eleven children and thirty grandchildren. Donald passed away on January 8, 1998. HUDY, Andrzej “Andy” Andy was born in Podczerwone Province, Krakow, Poland on November 15, 1923. Andy entered the conflict in Europe on January 23, 1945 by joining the Polish Forces under British Command in France. He later transferred to the Polish 2nd Corps in Italy in March 1945. His honours include the 1939-45 British and Italy Star Medals. After being honourably discharged from the Army on November 20, 1946, he immigrated to Canada. There, he met and married Hilda Mitchell in 1951 and settled in the Ottawa area and raised a family of six children. Andy received his Canadian citizenship in 1959. Andy and Hilda were proud and active members of The Royal Canadian Legion Montgomery Branch 35 for 24 years. Andy passed away on November 20, 2002.
