279 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HOCHU, Eugene J. A. Eugene was born in Montreal on April 19, 1922. He enlisted in the Army on September 1939 and served with the Maisonneuve Regiment in Canada, England, France and Germany during World War II. Eugene made his way to England in December 1939, and Normandy on June 9, 1944. He was a stretcher bearer in the Regiment de Maisonneuve – 6 Brigade, 2 Division, 2 corps. He was wounded once and had PTSD. Eugene was discharged in September 1945 and went to Sault Ste Marie as an iron worker. He had four children, three girls and a boy. He was very adept at fret work and spent much of his spare time fishing trout. He has been a member of Sault Ste Marie Legion Branch 25 for fifteen years. Eugene passed away in March 1964. HODGINS, Allen Keith Allen was born on April 22, 1922 in Westminster Township, Middlesex County, Ontario. He enlisted in the RCAF on July 19, 1941 hoping to be a pilot. Instead he saw service in Calgary where he was trained as a mechanic during World War II, a trade that served him well later in life. Upon discharge on September 22, 1945, Allen resided in Thedford, Ontario where he met his wife, raised his family, ran his own construction business, farmed and served his community in various capacities. He was a member of Forest Legion Branch 176 for ten years. Allen passed away on May 29, 2013 and is survived by his wife of 66 years, two children and their spouses, four grandchildren and a great granddaughter who was the apple of his eye. HODGE, Fredrick B. Fredrick was born in Hove, England on April 2, 1910. He joined the No. 3-A District Depot (A.F.) Kingston Depot in March 1943. He served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe (Holland)during World War II. After his discharge in March 1946, Fredrick returned to Belleville with his war bride (Elizabeth) and raised two children. They were happily married for 45 years until her death in 1991. He retired from Home Hardware after 33 years in 1986. He was a member of Belleville Legion Branch 99 for over 35 years. Frederick passed away on July 3, 2002.
