275 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HILLSLEY, Arthur Arthur was born in Canada on November 11, 1917. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and served with the Royal Regiment of Canada in England, Europe and Canada during World War II. He participated in the Dieppe Raid. His craft was sunk before he reached the beach and he was picked up by a destroyer and returned to England. He returned to action on D-Day plus 4. He left the Army in 1946 and re-enlisted in 1954 for three years as Company Quarter Master. Arthur received a letter of commendation dated 1946 from Field Marshall Montgomery. He received eight service medals. HINDMARSH, William G. “Bill” William was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 31, 1932. He enlisted in the Army on August 17, 1950 and served with the Canadian Army Special Force Korea and the Royal Canadian Regiment in Korea and Japan. He was discharged on August 6, 1952. William was awarded two medals, the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Medal. He was married to Mary for fifty years and they had two children John and Cindy and one grandchild, Thomas. William worked for IBM in Don Mills for over forty years. He was a member of Baron Byng Legion Branch 1 for thirty years. William passed away on January 2, 2004. HINDLE, Wesley W. “Wes” Wesley was born in Duncan, Ontario on March 21, 1925. He enlisted in the Army on January 12, 1944 and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps as a driver in Canada, Italy, France and Germany during World War II. After his discharge on April 10, 1946, Wes drove trucks for Hewgill Logging in Priceville, and then worked as an egg grader and packer at the Kimberley Creamery. He retired after working for years with Seeley Construction of Dundalk, ON. Wes married Shirley Hindle in 1948 and they raised their two daughters in the Pricedale, Kimberley, Markdale and Holland Centre area. Wes and Shirley were well known sports fans attending local hockey and ball games supporting their community. Wes passed away on August 11, 2002.
