271 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HENDERSON, Ross Ross was born in Kirriemuir, Scotland on November 28, 1930. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Police in August 1959 and served in Canadian Forces base in Canada. After serving two years in the British Army, Ross was recruited by two Canadian diplomats in England to join the Royal Canadian Provost Corps. He served all over Canada teaching physical education and unarmed combat as well as his regular policing duties. Ross was posted to Dawson City where he patrolled the Alaska Highway. Ross has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for two years. HEPBURN, Samuel J. Samuel was born in Sullivan Township, Grey County on April 12, 1893. He enlisted in the Army in February 1916 and served with the 160 Battalion Company B. Pte Hepburn served in World War I and World War II. He saw action in Canada, England and France. Samuel was discharged in July 1919 and returned to Chesley where he remained until he passed away in 1968. He was a member of Chesley Legion Branch 144. HENRY, Merle V. Merle was born in Sullivan Township, Grey County on August 18, 1922. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in 1942 and served in Canada during World War II. She was discharged in 1946. She was a Charter Member of the Chesley Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 144 Chesley. Merle passed away on March 8, 2007.
