257 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HAMMOND, William H. William was born in Chesley, Ontario on August 16, 1897. He enlisted in the Army on December 27, 1915 and served with the 160th Battalion, Comp. B in Canada, England, France, Belgium, and Germany during World War I. He was discharged in May 1919 and became a member of Chesley Legion Branch 144. William passed away in 1981. HANSON, Donald Frederick Donald was born in Walworth, London, England on December 7, 1920. He enlisted in the Air Force on September 21, 1942 and served as Flight Sergeant with 630 Squadron RAF during World War II. Donald trained at London where he met his wife. He served in Canada and England. He was discharged on September 9, 1945. At the end of the war, he flew to Europe to bring back Prisoners of War. He moved to Canada after the war. Donald passed away on March 6, 2002. HANNAN (WALKER), Irene E. Irene was born in Cochrane, Ontario on September 14, 1923. She was nineteen when she joined the WRCNS (Wrens) in 1943. Irene received her basic training in Galt, Ontario and was billeted in Preston, Ontario. She was sent to HMS Stadacona in Halifax, Nova Scotia during World War II. She worked in Fleet Mail. She returned to Cochrane after her discharged in 1945 and married in 1947. Irene has been a member of Cochrane Legion Branch 89 for over 65 years.
