251 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HALL, Charles E. Charles was born in Port Sandfield, Muskoka on August 23, 1925. He enlisted in the Army on August 11, 1943 and served with the 48th Highlanders, Canadian Infantry Corps in Canada, England, Italy and Holland during World War II. He was discharged on April 22, 1946. After the war, Charlie was a handyman and expert stone mason. He built and maintained summer cottages in Muskoka. He drove the rural school bus for 26 years. Charles is a life member and president of RCL 489. He earned the CVSM and Clasp, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, and Dutch Medal of Remembrance in 2002. HALL, George C. George was born in Whitby, Ontario on January 16, 1919. He enlisted in the Army and served in England during World War II. He was discharged in 1945. George passed away on February 20, 1990. HALL, Clifford A. Clifford was born in Hove, Sussex, United Kingdom on April 22, 1926. He enlisted in the Navy on April 30, 1943. He was a Telegraphist HF/DF Operator sent on loan to the RCN. He served with C1 Escort Group on North Atlantic Convoy Duty on HMCS Orangeville during World War II. He was discharged on November 11, 1946. Clifford returned to RN at the end of war and immigrated to Canada in July 1947. He courted, and married on June 4, 1949, Shirley Kathleen Lee, the niece of J.D. Fleming, a Leading Stoker on HMCS Orangeville. He spent the happiest 58 years of his life with his incredible Canadian wife. Shirley passed away on New Year’s Eve 2007. Clifford has been a member of Dr. W. C. Little M. M. Branch 147 for four years.
