237 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GOODING, Lindley C. Lindley was born in Barbados on December 13, 1894. He enlisted in the Army in October 1918 and served with the 1st Depot Battalion W.O.R., 47th Battalion in England and France during World War I. He was discharged in March 1919. He was an active member of Chesley Legion Branch 144 for 65 years. Lindley passed away in 1964. GORDON, Albert Paul Paul was born on September 16, 1934 in Barrie, Ontario. He ran away at age fifteen, joined the RCN in January 1952 at HMCS York. After basic training at HMCS Cornwallis, he was drafted to the Light Cruiser HMCS Quebec. He trained in the Torpedo Anti-Submarine Branch learning to use a variety of explosives and weapons along with sophisticated detection equipment. He was deployed in wooden mine sweepers Cowichan, Fundy and Trinity, followed by destroyers which were on NATO exercises and was part of the Cuban Missile Crisis Blockade. He also served on Depot Repair Ship HMCS Cape Scott and, as Sonar Air crew with HS50 Antisubmarine Sikorskis on board the carrier Bonaventure. He was discharged as Chief Warrant Officer (CISN) in 1982. Paul graduated from university in 1985, becoming a pastor and chaplain. He has been a member of Mallorytown Branch 484 for thirteen years and is living in Brockville, ON. GORBARCZYK, Richard George Richard was born in Fallingbostel, Germany on January 9, 1946. He immigrated to Canada as a youngster with his parents and younger brother Peter. Graduating from D’Arcy McGee High School, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and upon completion of “Boot Camp” and Basic Infantry Training, he was assigned to an infantry unit and deployed to Vietnam arriving in Da Nang, Quang Nam Province in 1965. Richard was transferred and completed his tour with Mike Co, 3rd Bn, Mar Div. and was released from active duty in 1968. Richard lived in North Carolina for ten years and then returned to Canada. He died tragically of asphyxiation on the beach of the Arenas Dorada Hotel in Varadero, Cuba on October 23, 2009. Richard is sadly missed and remembered by his wife Stella and children Richard Jr., Danny and Anna.
