235 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GOODAYLE, Harry Harry was born in London, England on October 14, 1899. He enlisted in the Army in Lindsay, Ontario on January 28, 1916 lying about his age stating he was 22 but was in fact seventeen. He served with the 38th Canadian Infantry Battalion at Vimy Ridge during World War I. He was gassed and bombed during his service and came back to Canada in a body cast. Harry passed away on May 11, 1966. GOODHAND, Lorne G. Lorne was born in Warwick Township, Ontario on November 16, 1924. He enlisted in the Army in the fall of 1943. He received his basic training in Camp Borden and embarked overseas on May 24, 1944. He served as a Tank Gunner with the First Hussars in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Kapellen, Nijmegen, Appledorn, Bachwald forest and Hochwald forest during World War II. Lorne was discharged on August 20, 1946 and received the 1939-45 Star, CVSM and Clasp, France and Germany Star, 1939-45 War Medal. As a Veteran he was awarded the Service Medal and was a Past President of Forest Legion Branch 176. Lorne passed away on August 21, 2010. GOODHAND, Elmer Martin Elmer was born on February 12, 1919 in Warwick Township, Lambton County. He enlisted in the Army and served with RCR Infantry – Engineers during World War II. While in Holland, he learned his brother was in the area and took off on his motorcycle locating him and spending three days with him. After the war, he returned and worked as a mechanic. Elmer married and had three children. He was a member of Forest Legion Branch 176. Elmer passed away on May 9, 1979.
