233 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GOLZ, John L. John was born in St Marys, Ontario on September 30, 1968. He enlisted in the Army on April 14, 1986 and served with the 4th Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment in Canada until May 1993. John has put the leadership skills he learned in the Army to good use as he has been an active Boy Scouts Leader in St Marys for many years. He has been a member of St. Marys Legion Branch 236 for 27 years. Gonzalez, Ronald P. M. Ronald was born in Timmins, Ontario on October 15, 1937. He joined the Navy on March 21, 1955 and served in the Canadian Forces Maritime Command, on board HMCS Gatineau, Ungava, Nootka, New Liskeard, and Portage in Canada in the high seas. Ronald was a Sonar Operator while in the Navy and after his discharge on February 1, 1960, he returned to Northern Ontario and became a Police Officer for fourteen years. After leaving the Police force he took up a career in Construction Management. Ronald has been a member of Hearst Legion Branch 73 and Penetang Legion Branch 68 for a total of 35 years. GONNEAU, Oliver Doran Oliver was born in Midland, Ontario on June 2, 1919. Pte. Oliver Doran Gonneau joined the Simcoe Highlanders and was sent to depot in Valcartier, Quebec. While there, he became very ill and was unable to complete depot with his cadre. About three months later, he was well enough to finish depot, and he was placed in the next cadre going through, which were the Pictou Highlanders from Nova Scotia. On completion, he was sent to a camp near Kingston to train on the latest radio equipment. His unit then sailed from Gander to the Bahamas to guard the Governor – The Duke and Duchess of Nassau, the former King Edward VIII and Mrs. Wallis. Pte. Gonneau returned to civilian life and used his carpenter and wood working skills to provide for his wife and two children. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Oliver passed away on February 15, 1998.
