231 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GODWIN, Ross Elwood Ross was born in Hamilton, Ontario on March 6, 1926. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and was very proud to serve his country. He was trained as a telegraphist and while on a tour in 2011 of the HMCS Haida, he was still able to message his name in Morse code. Ross was training in Halifax and getting ready to be deployed when the war ended so he never put his training to use. He returned to Hamilton and married Agnes Pryde, the love of his life. They went on to raise five children and saw the birth of three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Agnes died in 2004; he worked in the printing department of Westinghouse and retired from there in 1986. Ross died on September 2, 2013. He had a good life and enjoyed good health up until the last year of his life. GOLDEN, Charles E. Charles was born in Tobermory, Ontario on June 13, 1917. He enlisted in the Grey and Simcoe Foresters on June 19, 1940 in Owen Sound. He trained at Camp Borden and after going overseas he transferred to the 1st Hussars and served in England, France and Germany during World War II. After discharge Charlie sailed on the NORMAC before moving to Thunder Bay where he worked for the United Grain Growers. He was a member of Tobermory Legion Branch 290 and was also a member of the North West Trappers Association. Charles passed away on August 28, 1987. GOFORTH, Roy F. Roy was born in Stratford, Ontario on April 23, 1921. He enlisted in the Navy in May 1942 and served on HMCS Chicoutimi on the high seas during World War II. He was discharged on September 29, 1945. He was a member of Stratford Legion Branch 8. Roy passed away on December 7, 1998.
