219 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GALLINGER, Edward G. Edward was born in Ottawa, Ontario on October 9, 1933. He enlisted in the Army in 1951 and served with the Royal Canadian Regiment in Korea during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1953. Edward has been a member of Bewdley Legion Branch 577. GASBARINI, Anthony Anthony was born in St. Catharines, Ontario on December 8, 1923. Anthony was “drafted” into the Canadian Army on May 25, 1943, while a student at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. He received his infantry training at Camp Borden and was assigned to the Canadian Army Medical Corps in Camp Petawawa, where he worked as an orderly in the hospital. Anthony was scheduled to go overseas during World War II, but on the eve of his departure he was held back because he suffered from a chronic respiratory condition. Some months later he learned that his unit he was to go overseas with had been wiped out. Anthony was transferred to Sunnybrook Hospital as an orderly. While there, he became ill and was discharged on August 21, 1946 after serving three years in the Army. On his return home to St. Catharines, Anthony became active with the Folk Arts Festival and served that organization for many years as a director and president. He is an accomplished writer and photographer and has been a member of H.T. Church Legion Branch 24 for over 60 years. GARDNER, Harold S. Harold was born in Shropshire, England on October 18, 1891. He enlisted in the Army on October 27, 1914 and served with the Canadian Infantry, 18th Battalion in Europe. Harold was killed in action on March 2, 1916 in France. He is buried at the Ridgewood Military Cemetery in Belgium.
