207 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FORBES, Arthur J. “Art” Arthur was born in East Hawkesbury Township, Ontario on October 1, 1920. Art enlisted at the start of World War II. First into the Army then decided to serve his county in the Navy. He was soon trained as a Radar Officer. He served in the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. He was aboard the RCN corvette Prescott when it sank a U-63 in the Atlantic North West passage of Spain. It was not until 1987 it was recorded correctly in history. Art left the service when peace was declared. Returning home Art was hired as a linesman by the Forest Public Utilities, eventually he became Superintendent and Manager retiring in April 1983. Art joined the Forest Legion Branch 176 in 1949. He became a Life Member always active in the maintenance and running of his branch. Art passed away on August 21, 2003. FORTIER, Francis Joseph Francis was born in North Bay, Ontario on September 25, 1916. He joined the Algonquin Reserves in North Bay on September 15, 1939. He served with the #3 Company Corps Signals, 1st Corps Signal during World War II and was discharged on September 10, 1941. He was a member of North Bay Legion Branch 23. Francis passed away on January 21, 1976. FORRESTER, William Storrie “Bill” William was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on January 3, 1926. He left his job at the Dominion Chain Company in Niagara Falls to join the Army on August 7, 1944. He signed on with the Armoured Corps, but was transferred to the Infantry when he got to Europe. Bill served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Defence Medal. After his discharge on September 12, 1946, Bill returned to his job with the Dominion Chain Company. He has been a member of St Marys Legion Branch 236 for 69 years.
