465 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ST. LAURENT, Charles A. Charles was born on June 8, 1916 in Michipicoten River. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in Canada, England, France, Holland, Germany and Belgium with the North Shore Regiment during World War II. He was discharged in 1946. Charles passed away on September 23, 1986. STAMPLECOSKIE, Frank Frank was born on October 11, 1912 in Barry’s Bay, Sherwood Township, ON. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe with the Canadian Forestry Corps during World War II after enlisting in March of 1941. He was awarded the 1939 – 1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the Forrest Ranger L&F. He was discharged on March 9, 1946. He was a member of the Barry’s Bay Legion Branch 406 for 50 years before he passed away on November 4, 2004. STALKER, William D. William was born on March 31, 1898. He served in the Navy with the Royal Canadian School of Artillery during World War I and with the 45th Norfolk Field Regiment during World War II. Not only did he serve during both world wars, he also served his community during much of his life. He was a Charter Member of the Simcoe Kinsmen Club and LACAC, President of Simcoe Rotary, Eva Crook Donly Museum Commission, Norfolk Historical Society, Master of Norfolk Masonic Lodge, Manager of the Simcoe Public Utilities Commission, long serving Simcoe Councillor as well as Clerk, Treasurer and Ontario Justice of the Peace. He was noted historian and published “It Was Only Yesterday”, a history sketch of Simcoe. In 1983, he was voted Citizen of the Year. William passed away on March 9, 1993.
