435 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ROBINSON, Lloyd Lloyd was born on October 30, 1923 in Bruce Mines, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on November 22, 1941. He served during World War II with the Toronto Scots / Hamilton Wentworth Regiment in Canada, England, France and Germany until his discharge on December 27, 1946. For his service, he was awarded the 1939 – 1945 Defence Medal, France and Germany Star, CDM Peacekeeping, 1939-45 Star and the War Medal 1939 – 1945. Upon his return, he became a Locomotive Operator and worked with Heavy Equipment. ROCHEJOQUELIN, Edward Edward joined the RCN and was in Gaspe during the Battle of the St. Lawrence. He worked aboard gate vessels and was eventually a “spotter” on RCAF Canso Flying Boats looking for U-Boats. Later, his superior drawing skills were noticed and he was immediately reassigned as the base sign painter. In 1943, he was off to Halifax and worked on a rescue tugboat. He specifically remembers serving on Glenvalley. He visited two friends aboard HMCS Raccoon before they went on convoy escort later that day. That night, at 0112 hours, Raccoon was lost to U-165 with all hands – including Ed’s friends. Eventually, he was posted aboard HMS Puncher, a Canadian-manned aircraft carrier. He worked freeing aircrafts “captured” by the third arrester cable on the flight deck. After the war, he worked as a barber, painter and hospital porter. He has been married for 70 years. ROBSON, Thomas R. Thomas was born on April 3, 1923 in Woodslee, Ontario. He joined the Navy on May 6, 1941. After training in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was sent to England for further training. He was on loan to R.N. He served on HMS Manxman off the coast of France, Gibraltar, West Africa, South Africa, Madagascar, Mombasa, Kenya, Ceylon, Port of Bombay, Calcutta and Masulipatam. From there, he went to the Red Sea, Suez Canal, Mediterranean Sea to Malta and Algeria in North Africa. The Manxman was torpedoed while he was onboard off the Port of Oran on December 1, 1942. He was then transferred to Gibraltar to the HMS Abdiel and operated off the coast of Messina, Italy. He was then transferred to HMCS Kootney (his first Canadian Ship) operating in North Atlantic, Ireland, Iceland and Newfoundland. In 1943, Thomas attended school for a Petty Officer’s course and was made Petty Officer in 1943 and sailed from Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia; Newfoundland; Boston and Bermuda. He was discharged on December 11, 1945. After his service, Thomas worked for Chrysler Corp. in security advancing to Captain of fire and security until his retirement in August of 1980.
