He enlisted in the Merchant Navy in September of 1942 and served in the Pacific and the Atlantic for Canada during World War II. He was discharged in May of 1946. He was awarded the War Medal, Service Medal, Pacific Medal and was five hours short to receive the Atlantic Medal. He retired from being an orderly for 25 years at Westminster Veteran’s Hospital in London, ON. Stuart passed away on May 18, 2003. PLANTE, Laurent J. Laurent was born on September 22, 1923 in Uno-Park, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in Toronto with the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps on November 23, 1942. He served as a trooper during World War II. After his discharge on May 16, 1946, he moved to New Liskeard, Ontario for employment and moved to Kapuskasing, Ontario, working for Hill Clark Francis. He resides in Kapuskasing, Ontario. PICKERING, Chris J. Chris was born on May 6, 1940 in Great Yarmouth, United Kingdom. He joined the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom as a young man in 1957 and served a total of 18 years in the Royal Navy and Army Reserve Engineers. He spent time in several RN submarines patrolling during the height of The Cold War, and finished out his time as a Territorial Army (known as the Army Reserve in Canada) as an Engineer. He has earned The Royal Navy General Service Medal. Chris has been a member of the Fred Gies Legion Branch 50 for thirteen years.
