393 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND OLIVER, Thomas G. Thomas was born on January 23, 1913 in Scotland. He enlisted in the Army on November 8, 1943. He served with the Royal Canadian Armoured Division as a gunner during World War II. He served in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was discharged on February 21, 1946. For his service, he received the C.V.S.M. Medal and Clasp, the France and Germany Star and the 1939 – 1945 Star. After the war, he worked as a miner then supervisor at Algoma Ore Division. He was very active with the Wawa Legion Branch 429. He played an important role in its formation and has held a number of positions within the branch. Thomas passed away on February 28, 1988. OWEN, Mervyn F. Mervyn was born on July 26, 1928 in Oshawa, Ontario. He enlisted on January 9, 1956 with the 11th Ontario Regiment of the Army. He served in Canada during Peacetime and was discharged in July of 1965. Mervyn is a member of the Millbrook Legion Branch 402. ORR, Margaret E. Margaret was born in McGillvary Township, Ontario on December 4, 1923. She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air force (Women’s Division) in London, Ontario in September of 1942. After completing training in Toronto, Ontario, she was transferred to Alberta and employed as a Switchboard Operator at a number of stations such as Vulcan, Pierce and Calgary. On VE day, she was stationed at Portage La Prairie and in Winnipeg for the surrender of Japan. She was also employed at the Officers Mess in Ottawa. Margaret was honourably discharged at Lavelle, Quebec in April of 1946 at the rank of Leading Air Woman (LAW). Her medals include the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939 – 1945. Margaret has been a member of the Sir Arthur Currie Legion Branch 116 for 18 years.
