He served onboard the HMCS Saskatchewan during the Cold War era in Canada and on the High Seas. He was discharged on January 26, 1982. David is a member of St. Mary’s Legion Branch 236. NORMOYLE, Gregory F. Gregory was born on February 15, 1924 in “Cork Town”, Oshawa to John and Mary Normoyle. After the War, he married Madeline Burkhart and they have one daughter and one grandson. He was very proud to have served along with his three brothers in World War II. As a member of the Royal Regiment, he was wounded in action in Louvigny, Normandy in July, 1944, but he never spoke of that. He served in France, Belgium, the Liberation of Holland, and the defeat of Germany. He was the recipient of the following six medals: the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the War Medal, and the Defence Medal. After the War, he returned to work at Duplate, later PPG until his retirement. Gregory passed away on April 12, 2011. NORMOYLE, Daniel D. Daniel was born in “Cork Town”, Oshawa to John and Mary Normoyle. Dan married, had two children and worked at General Motors, a war industry then. He enlisted in the Ontario Regiment in March 1943. Awaiting shipment overseas in Halifax, all three of his brothers overseas had already been wounded. However, fate intervened. At last minute, he was reclassified as unfit for overseas as a result of a serious illness he had as a child. This probably saved his life. Ironically, he was a natural athlete and played catcher for Camp Borden’s baseball team. His greatest sorrow was the death of his brother Pat in December 1944. For his service to Canada during World War II II, he was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal. His son, Robert, served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1960 to 1963. Daniel passed away on February 13, 1999.
