365 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MOORE, Reginald F. “Reg” Reginald was born in Lindsay on April 23, 1924. He enlisted in the Army on June 3, 1941 and served with the 32nd Battery, 4th Light Anti Aircraft Regiment, 3rd Cdn Infantry Division and 13th Field Regiment. He served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was discharged on October 23, 1945. While in England, Reg met and married his wife Bertha (Poppy) Manning. Following his discharge, he worked as a mailman in Peterborough until he joined the OPP in January of 1953. He had a very successful career and was rewarded with many advancements and promotions including spending 1970 in Osaka, Japan as Sergeant in charge of officers providing security at the Canadian Pavilion at the World’s Fair, where he met many dignitaries including the Crown Prince and Princess of Japan, and Pierre Elliot Trudeau. He retired from the OPP in 1985 with the rank of Inspector, unable to accept his newly acquired promotion to Superintendent due to advanced hearing loss from damage during his service in World War II. Reg was a past president of The Royal Canadian Legion, Burk’s Falls Branch and was a member of the Sir Sam Hughes Branch 37 in Lindsay for 49 years. MOORECROFT, Arthur A. Arthur was born in Toronto, Ontario on December 20, 1889. He enlisted in the Army on April 5, 1916 and served with the 3rd Battalion Cdn Infantry in France during World War I. Arthur was killed in action at Ficheux, 4 ¼ miles south of Arras, France. Whilst advancing with his Battalion on the Arras-Cambrai Road he was severely wounded in the head by an enemy machine gun bullet. He was given immediate attention and taken to No. 22 Casualty Care Station where he died on September 28, 1918. He left behind a wife and a young son. He is buried at Bucquoy Road Cemetery in Ficheux, France. MOORE, Thomas H. Thomas was born in Cork, Ireland on October 21, 1903. He enlisted in the Army in 1920 and served with the British Imperial Army, Governor Gen. Horse Guard in Canada, India, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was discharged in 1945. Thomas was a member of the Simcoe Legion Branch 79 before he passed away on September 17, 1983.
