363 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MONTGOMERY, William L. K. William was born in Uxbridge, Ontario on January 11, 1926. He enlisted in the Army on January 11, 1944 and served in England, Holland, France and Germany with the Algonquin Unit during World War II. He landed at Normandy, but it is not known if that was on DDay. He fought in France and in the Liberation of Holland. He was discharged on August 31, 1946. On his return to Canada, he applied to the Veteran’s Land Act and received property on Kennedy Road in Scarborough. He was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway for 44 years. William was a member of the Agincourt Legion Branch for 25 years before he passed away on February 8, 2002. MOORE, Matthew R. Matthew was born in Listowel, Ontario on February 22, 1924. He enlisted in the Air Force on March 28, 1942 and served with the No 419 Squadron and 39th RECCE Group in Canada, England, France and Holland during World War II. On the field in Eindhoven Holland on January 1, 1944 during the German air attack, “Operation Boden Platte”, he had to man a Bren gun to return fire. Over seventy Canadians were killed that day. He was one of the lucky ones. He was discharged on January 5, 1946. Matthew passed away on July 6, 2012. MOORE, Leslie I. Leslie was born in Fort William, Canada on June 16, 1919. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Royal Canadian Regiment as a Corporal in Canada, England, and Italy, Normandy and then through to wars end in Europe during World War II. He was discharged in 1946. He was awarded the Italian, and France and German Medals. He was a member of Legion Branch 62. Leslie passed away on October 23, 2010.
