345 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McSHERRY, Jerome Allen “Jerry” Jerry was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 23, 1936, enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Toronto on November 30, 1956. He spent several years at the Radar/ Communications School in Clinton, ON. From 1975 to 1978, he was Career Manager for the Ground Radar Technician Trade in the CAF. In 1978, he was assigned to DEEM Section of NDHQ. Jerry served at 8 radar stations in five provinces. He retired on December 6, 1980 as Chief Warrant Officer in the ground radar trade after 24 years in the CAF. In 1988, he rejoined the Military under Class “C” program and served four more years. During his stay in the military, he was awarded the Military Medal of Merit, Centennial Medal 1967, Air Defence Command Commanders Outstanding Achievement Award 1975, Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp, and Jubilee Medal 1977. Jerry passed away on July 20, 2011 at Waterford, ON. He was a member of Legion Branch 123 for five years. MEDLAND, William Russell “Bill” Bill was born on March 15, 1931 and raised in Toronto. He served with the Queen’s York Rangers from 1966 to 1974 as an accomplished flautist in the band during peacetime. Bill continued playing when discharged and became the Bandmaster for The Toronto Derry Flute Band. When Bill retired he moved to Haliburton and in 1993 founded The Haliburton Highlands Silver Flute Band. For his dedication and volunteer teaching with the bands over many years, Bill received The “Caring Canadian Award” from Governor General Michaelle Jean in 2006. Bill retired from working with bands in 2012 due to ill health. He has been a member of the Port Perry Legion Branch 419 for forty years. McWILLIAMS, Carl A. Carl was born in Fenelon Falls, Ontario on April 12, 1920. He enlisted in the Army on August 9, 1941 and served in England with the R.C.E.M.E. during World War II. He was discharged on October 20, 1945. Carl was a member of Legion Branch 328 for 21 years before he passed away on June 25, 1996.
