339 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McMAHON, John D. John was born on May 14, 1921 in Edmonton, Alberta. He enlisted in the Canadian Army (Regimental #M3937) and was assigned with the Royal Canadian Artillery as a Gunner on April 13, 1941 but later became a mechanic. He served in Canada during World War II. His medals include the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. He was honourably discharged in 1942 and passed away on October 31, 2013 at the age of 92. His family has a history of dedicated military service. His father, John Edward McMahon served in World War I with Sir General Arthur Currie and fought in the battle at Vimy Ridge. John’s son Edward served in the Forces in the early 60’s as a mechanic. John’s brother TR Ross McMahon served in World War I in the Merchant Navy and hos other brother Howard served in Korea. John was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion and was a member of Sir Arthur Currie Branch 116 for 64 years. McMURTER, Clifford E. Clifford was born in Murray Township, Northumberland on September 19, 1923. He enlisted in the Army on October 11, 1939 and served with the Midland Regiment Lindsay Ontario in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was discharged on December 4, 1945. Clifford was a member of the Brigadier O.M. Martin Branch 345 before he passed away on February 10, 1980. McMEEKIN, Harold J. Harold was born in Hearst, Ontario on May 20, 1942. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on January 13, 1960 and served in Canada. He served on the following ships: HMCS Carleton, Cornwallis, Gloucester, Margaree, Naden, Churchill and Chipawa. He held the rank of Able Seaman and was discharged on January 13, 1963. He returned to Kapuskasing after finishing his tour and continues to reside there. He has been a member of Legion Branch 85 for 51 years.
