337 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McKENNY, John E. John was born in Parkhill, Ontario on December 4, 1921. He enlisted in the Army in August of 1942 and served in Canada, Holland, Belgium and Germany with the Essex Scottish Regiment during World War II. At the time, The Essex Scottish Regiment (Windsor, ON) was attached to the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division, 4th Infantry Brigade. John saw action in Nijmegen, Groningen, and the Hochwald Forest and was awarded the France and Germany Star. He was discharged in February of 1945. John returned to work at C. Richardson and Co. (later Paul Mueller Co,) in St. Marys. Shortly thereafter, he became the Purchasing Agent. John married Florence Blazey in April of 1948. They enjoyed life with three children, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In 1949, John joined the St. Mary’s Legion Branch 236 and was a member for 45 years. He held the position of Secretary-Treasurer (3 years) and Poppy Chairperson (3 years). He enjoyed cribbage and played in the Stratford and District Cribbage League for 45 years. John passed away on April 25, 1993. McLEOD, Wilfred D. Wilfred was born in Windsor, Ontario on September 4, 1924. He enlisted at Number 1 District Depot of the Canadian Army (Active) in Windsor on April 5, 1943. After his initial training, he was posted to the Perth Regiment out of Hamilton. This regiment was part of the 1st Canadian Division. He served during World War II in Canada, the Central Mediterranean Area, England and also in Italy as part of the Italian Campaign where he was wounded in action. He was returned back to England for rehabilitation and served there until the end of the war. Wilfred was honourably discharged in London, Ontario on April 2, 1946 at the rank of Corporal. His medals consist of the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. Wilfred passed away on September 30, 2013 at the age of 89. He was a member of the Sir Arthur Currie Legion Branch 116 for 38 years. McLEAN, Elmer Elmer was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on June 1, 1921. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on July 30, 1941 in Sault Ste. Marie and served in Canada, Britain and Northwest Europe during World War II. He was honourably discharged in Toronto on January 30, 1946 with the rank of Private. He was awarded with the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and War Medal 1939-45. Elmer was a member of the Thessalon Legion Branch 182.
