He served on the High Seas on HMCS Algonquin, Thunder, Buckingham, Donnacona, Acadia, Chaleur, Incharron, Annapolis, Quinte, Procteur, CFB Shearwater and HMCS Lauzon. Spending fifteen years in the Royal Canadian Navy generated many lasting memories and friendships for Raymond. He had the privilege of sailing with some veterans still serving who had been in the Second and Korean wars. What they endured pale everything he did and what stands out most in his mind was the “Bonnies Storm” in 1959 where they endured 140 miles per hour winds and 85 foot seas for three days most of the suffering was in their stomachs. He also survived two ship groundings and one collision at sea and the dreaded Newfoundland patrol through the Cold War in the North Atlantic, nothing compared to what our war vets had to endure. He served in the Queen’s Honour Guard in 1959 and was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration and the C.D. He was discharged on March 26, 1972. Raymond has been a member of the Orillia Legion Branch 34 for 49 years. McEOWN, Robert M. Robert was born in Orillia on May 25, 1926. He enlisted in the Army on January 22, 1945 and served in Canada during World War II. He took basic training in Brantford, Ontario and advanced training in Base Borden. The war ended while he was in Borden waiting to go to the East Coast. He was discharged on May 17, 1946. He spent a number of years on Branch 34 Colour Party. Robert has been a member of the Orillia Legion Branch 34 for 58 years. McDONOUGH, Francis Francis was born on March 27, 1917.
