315 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MARSHALL, Herbert L. Herbert was born in Cobourg. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served with 3 – RD and 4 – FD, AMB as a Gunner. He served in Canada, North Africa and Northwest Europe. He was discharged in January of 1946. His medals include the War Medal 1939 – 1945, Italy Medal, France and Germany Medal and 1939 – 1945 Star. Herbert was a member of the Cobourg Legion Branch 133 for 21 years before he passed away on February 23, 1998. MASON, Edward “Ed” Edward was born in Clonmel, Ireland on July 21, 1910. He was an Irish immigrant to Canada before the war. He volunteered in 1939 and served during World War II as a Sergeant in the Ontario Tank Regiment in the Italian campaign, northern Europe after D-Day. He was a very proud D-Day Dodger. Returning on July 20, 1945, he felt he had earned his place in Canada now. He married and bought a place through the Veteran’s Land Act where he lived the rest of his life. Ed and his wife, Bert, were very active members of the Legion Branch 419, Port Perry. At the age of 85, he was the recipient of the Canada Medal for his service to the country and community. He was also awarded the Volunteer Medal, Italy Star and the France and Germany Star. He was born in Ireland and died a very proud Canadian. Edward was a member of Port Perry Branch 419 before he passed away on November 22, 2002. MASNYK, David G. David was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 2, 1961. He enlisted in the Air Force in September of 1980. He served in Canada, Germany, the United States and Egypt with the Conventional Forces Europe Trenty Open Skies Arms Control. He was first to lead “Open Skies” mission to Tiksi, Russia. He served as a verificator on mission to Turkmenistan. His medals are: Georgia, Ukraine, Bosnia and Russia. David is currently still serving.
