311 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MARQUIS, Armand J. Armand was born in Fauquier, Ontario on November 19, 1925. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served as a Private with the R.C.I.C. Lincoln & Welland Regiment in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Armand was killed in action on April 23, 1945 by a sniper in Friesaythe, Germany and is buried in the war cemetery in Holten, Holland. A fellow soldier, Ben Fraser, built a memorial in Fauquier in memory of his fallen comrade. He received the 1939 – 1945 Star and the France and Germany Star. MARSH, Leonard H. Leonard was born in Canterbury, Kent, England on April 24, 1888. He served during World War I with the 9th Lancers in the United Kingdom and in South Africa prior to coming to Canada. He enlisted with the 109th Reserve Batt in Canada as a Lance Corporal; he reverted to Pvt. so he could proceed to France with the 38th Batt of the C.E.F. He was killed in action on April 9, 1917 at Vimy Ridge. His name is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial in France, as well as the Cenotaph in Omemee, Ontario. MARSDEN, Ernie A. Ernie was born in Espanola, Ontario on December 10, 1947. He enlisted on January 15, 1967 and served aboard HMCS Nipigon, Iroquois and Magnificent and he also served at CFB Halifax, Shearwater and Ottawa, CFS Lowther and CDLS Washington DC on the High Seas, in Canada and in the United States during Peacetime. He was discharged on November 30, 2011. Ernie served for a total of 45 years: thirty in the Navy and fifteen in the Army with the 26 Svc Bn. His medals include the CD with two Claps, Queens Diamond Jubilee, Peacekeeping Medal and Nato Medal. Ernie has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for twenty years.
