309 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MARDLIN, Loyd G. Loyd was born on August 5, 1922 in Whalen Corners, Ontario. He enlisted on February 24, 1944 and served with the No 2 Canadian Transport in Canada and in England during World War II. He joined the infantry and took his basic training in Chatam. He carried on for advanced training at Iperwash and Dundurn, Saskatchewan. He specialized in the bren gun and the bren gun carrier, and his prowess earned him the appointment of Lance Corporal. In early 1945, he was deployed to England where he served until the end of the war. He spent time at various English sites, but the bulk of his time was spent at Loos. He was discharged on April 11, 1946. He proudly wears the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He has been a member of the St. Marys Legion Branch 236 for one year. MARIN, Oneil Oneil was born in Moonbeam, Ontario on November 28, 1925. He enlisted in the Army in 1951 with the Algonquin Regiment (Kapuskasing) “A” Company and served with the rank of Staff Sergeant in Canada until his discharge in 1969. During his tenure with the Algonquin Regiment, Oneil looked after the stores and much to his delight, also got training on tanks. He managed to get this one tank sunk in the Northern Ontario muskeg and nearly lost his life in the process. That same tank now stands at the entrance of the Kingston Military Base. Oneil went on to become president of Branch 85 and Zone Commander of K4 in District K. He was a member of the Legion Branch 85 for 53 years. Oneil passed away on December 29, 2008. MARIN, Eric R. Eric was born in April of 1976 in Kapuskasing, Ontario. He enlisted in September of 1999 and joined the battle school in Menford, Ontario and the 14 Wing in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. He served in the Air Force with the rank of Master Corporal in intelligence and served two tours in Afghanistan, the first in 2009 with operation “Apollo” and again in 2011. He also spent time at CFB Petawa with the Royal Canadian Regiment. He received the General Campaign Service Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration.
