293 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LOWNDES, John Montgomery John was born on May 8, 1926 in Toronto, ON. He joined the Army Service Corps in May 1942, transferred to the 48th Highlanders of Canada on May 1943 at the age of 17. When he turned 18, he transferred to the Canadian Infantry Corps and trained in Brantford and Borden where he was until the end of the War. John volunteered for the Pacific Theatre and was sent to Fort Benning for training. He returned in September 1945 and attended the University of Toronto from 1946 to 1949. He joined the C.O.T.C. from 1946 to 1948 and qualified as Captain. John joined the 48th Highlanders as Lieutenant in 1949. After his discharge he practiced law for 53 years, retiring in 2006. John married and raised five children. He has been a member of Fort York Legion Branch 165 for over 38 years. LUCE, Peggy L. Peggy was born on November 17, 1962 in Tillsonburg, ON. She enrolled in the Canadian Forces Regular Component on June 10, 1980 at C.F.R.C. London, ON. She completed basic training at C.F.R.S. Cornwallis, NS and went on to trades training to be a cook at Canadian Forces Base Borden. Peggy served at C.F.B. London and C.F.B. Summerside prior to being discharged on October 30, 1981 at the rank of Private. She has been a member of the Sir Arthur Currie Legion Branch 116 in Strathroy, ON for 27 years. LUCAS, Charles E. Charles was born on January 8, 1939 in St. Mary’s, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on March 13, 1958 and served with 5 Communications Unit, Air Defence Command HQ, R.C.A.F. Station St. Huberts, Quebec. Charles was discharged on December 15, 1963.
