291 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LOVERING, Glynn Noble “Glen” Glen was born on November 21, 1926 in the Matchedash Township, Coldwater, Ontario. As soon as he turned 18, he enlisted in the Army. He served until the end of the war in 1945. Glen was a member of Coldwater Legion Branch 270 for 62 years until he passed away on December 7, 2005. LOVERING, Noble Charles Noble was born on October 18, 1894 in the Matchedash Township, the third child of Charles Lovering and Jane Balkwill. During his early years, he worked on his parents’ farm, and logged in the forests near Bala. He enlisted on February 12, 1916, trained at Camp Borden, and was shipped to England, where he served with the 157th overseas Battalion of the Grey and Simcoe Foresters. He fought as a sniper in the battles of the Somme, Vimy and Ypres. He departed from Liverpool, England and arrived on January 25, 1919 in Halifax, NS. He married Kathleen Fill in Bala on September 22, 1922. They farmed in Matchedash and raised four children. Noble served as council member, as reeve of Matchedash Township, and on Simcoe County Council and was a member of Coldwater Legion Branch 270. Noble died on February 11, 1972 and is buried in Orillia. LOVERING, Joseph W. Joseph was born on June 30, 1904 in Severn Township (formerly Matchedash Township), the eighth child of Charles Lovering and Jane Balkwill. Private Lovering joined the Algonquin Regiment at Kirkland Lake on August 3, 1940 and trained at Barriefield, Port Arthur, ON; Shilo, MB; and Camp Borden. He was stationed in Newfoundland before being shipped overseas. He landed in England on June 19, 1943. From England, Joseph went to North Africa where he remained about two months. He landed in Italy in December 1943 and was transferred to the Irish Regiment. He served in France, Belgium and Holland. Joseph arrived back in Canada on the Louis Pasteur after five years in the Canadian Army. He married Hilda Kitchen and raised four children. Joseph died suddenly in Orillia on December 9, 1954 at the age of 50 and is buried in Orillia.
