277 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LAW, Robert Robert was born in Tempo, North Ireland on June 24, 1892. He enlisted in the Army. He served with the 2nd Division Canadian Artillery, the Black Watch D Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Royal Highlanders Regiment of Canada. He served two years in France as a black smith working on horses and equipment and two years at the front fighting in Vimy Ridge and the Battle of Mons. He served one year in Belgium after the war as a policeman and rebuilder of Belgium. He was awarded the Mons Medallion. He was a Life Member of Talbot Trail Legion Branch 613. Robert passed away on March 29, 1972. LAWSON, Robert T. Robert was born on May 30, 1924 in Manitoba. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on May 28, 1943. He served as an Able Seaman in Canada and Ireland during World War II. He served on HMCS Edmundston and while on convoy duty he picked up the signal of a submarine which helped them and a second Corvette attack and sink U-Boat 877. He was discharged on October 5, 1945 and came to Wawa to work for the Algoma Ore Division. He worked in production and later as a welder. He was awarded the Atlantic Star, the 1939-45 Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He was a member of Wawa Legion Branch 429 for over 60 years. Robert passed away on April 25, 2014. LAWRENCE, Merl M. Merl was born on October 6, 1923 in Nestorville, ON. He enlisted in the Army on November 23, 1942. He served with the Canadian Armoured Corps in Canada, the United Kingdom, the Central Mediterranean area, and Continental Europe. He was discharged on March 15, 1946. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal. He spent his entire life in Thessalon where he raised a family of five children. He was a member of Thessalon Legion Branch 182. Merl passed away on April 21, 1975.
