275 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LATIMER, Robert J. Robert was born in Manitoba on September 11, 1924. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 14, 1943. He served with the 78th Bomber Squadron in Canada, England and Europe during World War II. He flew 33 tours of operation over Germany as a Tail Gunner. He was discharged on September 25, 1945. He assisted in building the Legion and became an Electrical Foreman. He was a member of Wawa Legion Branch 429 for 45 years. Robert passed away on March 19, 1992. LAUGHLIN, Michael B. Michael was born on April 14, 1972 in York, ON. He joined the reserves as a Radio Teletype Operator in 1991. In 1998, he joined the Regular Forces as a Supply Technician. He was a member of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) from 1996 to 1997 in the Golan Heights. He was posted to Esquimalt in 1999 and was subsequently posted to HMCS Vancouver and HMCS Algonquin. He was part of Op Apollo in the Gulf of Oman on HMCS Algonquin. In 2008, Michael went to Afghanistan as part of the National Support Element (NSE) as part of Task Force 03/08. Although he was born in York, he considers Orillia his hometown. LATULIPPE, Horace R. Horace was born on July 8, 1918 in Thessalon, ON. He enlisted in the Army in 1941. He served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons in England, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany during World War II. He served as a gunner in armoured cars. He was discharged in 1945. He married an English war bride and had six children. He worked with the Ministry of Natural Resources until his retirement. He was a member of Thessalon Legion Branch 182. Horace passed away on September 24, 2009.
