273 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LAING, Charles M. Charles was born on June 29, 1925 in Swan River, MB. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 and served in the North Atlantic during World War II. He was discharged in 1945. After the war, he moved to Wawa, ON and worked at Algoma Ore as a miner then as underground supervisor. He was a member of Wawa Legion Branch 429 for over 60 years. Charles passed away on October 13, 2009. LANE, George R. George was born in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, UK on March 1, 1925. He was enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1943. He served in the North Atlantic convoy protection and the invasion of Normandy in HMS Destroyer Icarus and on submarines. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy Association. He was a Leading Able Seaman and Torpedoman. He was discharged in August 1946. LAJEUNESSE, Ernest B. J. Ernest was born on November 1, 1955 in Sturgeon Falls, ON. He enlisted in the Army on September 7, 1976. He served with the Royal Canadian Regiment. He trained in the Royal Canadian Regiment in CFB Petawawa and he served several tours as Peacekeeper in Germany, Croatia, and France. He has served across Canada and with CFB Borden participating in flood disasters, ice storm, search and rescue. In December 1991, Ernest was promoted to MWO. He planned to pursue an administration role in facilitating programs for youth in the far North including their participation with the Rangers. Ernest has been a strong supporter of the Veterans and Service Personnel. Ernest was discharged February 5, 2014.
