265 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KENNY, Joseph G. Joseph was born in New Carlisle, QC on April 12, 1925. He enlisted in the Army in 1940. He served with the New Brunswick Rangers in Canada, England, France, Holland, and Germany during World War II. He was discharged in 1946. He came back to Canada but as there were no jobs in Quebec, he moved to Ontario to find work. Joseph has been a member of Orillia Legion Branch 34 for 20 years. KINDT, Robert Robert was born on February 12, 1932 in Hasselt, Limburg, Belgium. He enlisted in the Belgian Merchant Navy in the fall of 1950 at the rank of Assistant Engineer. The Belgian Merchant Navy carried out duties such as transporting Belgium forces to the United States for six months of training on the US Ships. They would sail out of Antwerp, Belgium and across the North Atlantic to such ports as Boston and New York City. On one special trip, he also transported F-100 Sabre Jets from the US to Copenhagen, Denmark. Carrying a variety of cargo took him to many coasts including the Gold Coast of Africa. Robert was discharged from the Belgium Merchant Navy on July 13, 1956 at the rank of 3rd Engineer. He is a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion. He was a member of Sir Arthur Currie Legion Branch 116. KIESWETTER, William William was born on October 31, 1925 in Waterloo, ON. He enlisted in the Army on May 9, 1944. He served with the Essex Scottish Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, 4th Infantry Brigade in England and Europe. During World War II, he was seriously wounded in the battle to liberate Holland in the spring of 1945. William was leaving his foxhole to advance and he was struck by mortar fire and fell. He was left for dead and was given the battle field medical of the time and survived but carrying the embedded shrapnel wounds. He was discharged on November 16, 1945. He was a Life Member of Waterloo Legion Branch 530 for over 5 years. William passed away on October 18, 2011.
