263 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KELLY, James C. James was born on August 11, 1895 in L’Amable Hastings, ON. He enlisted in the Army on December 24, 1915. He served with 21st Battalion in Canada, England and France during World War I. James was killed in action on August 15, 1917 on Hill 70, France. His name is engraved on Canada’s Vimy Monument. KENNEDY, Morgan A. Morgan was born on May 18, 1941 in St. Thomas, Ontario. He enlisted in the USN on August 10, 1961. He served in the North Atlantic, the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean, and served in the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was discharged on July 29, 1965. He received the National Defence Service Medal and the Armed Force Expeditionary Medal for the Cuban Missile Crisis. Kennedy has been a member of Last Post Legion Branch 410 for 40 years. KELLY-DOWN, Mary Mary was born in Band, Veszprem, Hungary on May 8, 1926. After immigrating to Canada, she enlisted at Wolseley Barracks in London, Ontario in May of 1944 at the young age of eighteen. She joined the Canadian Woman’s Army Corps (WAC) and after completing her basic training in Kitchener, Ontario, she was posted to Ottawa. Here she worked at a supply depot where soldiers were issued their uniforms and military equipment supplies. She was honourably discharged in August of 1946 at the rank of Private in Oakville, ON. Mary never forgets VE day because it happened on her birthday. She has been a member of the Sir Arthur Currie Legion Branch 116 in Strathroy, ON for over 45 years.
