259 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KANE, Edward Edward was born in Ireland on September 27, 1920. He enlisted in the British Army on August 23, 1939. He served in England, France, India, and Burma during World War II. He was discharged on March 11, 1946. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Burma Star and the Defence Medal. He was a member of Wawa Legion Branch 429 for 40 years. Edward passed away on November 10, 2001. KEEGAN, Richard Richard was born in Lisnaskea, Ireland on August 20, 1923. He enlisted in the British Army in 1941. He served with the Royal Ulster Rifles and the Royal Corps of Signals in France and England during World War II. He took part in the D-Day invasion on Sword Beach, Juno and Cambes Wood. He was wounded on June 9, 1944 and shipped back to Yorkshire. He transferred to the Royal Corps of Signals and returned to France. He was discharged in 1946. After various part-time jobs he eventually started in a UK optical factory as charge hand and was also secretary of the amalgamated engineering union. Richard passed away on August 20, 2013. KEEGAN, Kenneth E. Kenneth was born on June 15, 1923 in Brampton, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 21, 1942. He started basic training in Toronto at the Exhibition Grounds and No 6 Initial Training School in Toronto for aircrew. He was selected for Pilot Training and posted to Goderich Flying School then to Hagersville Service Flying School where he graduated as a pilot. He served with No. 420 Squadron, 6 Group Bomber Command in England during World War II and went overseas on HMCS Queen Elizabeth. He completed 36 operational bombing missions over Germany and France and received an Officers Commission as well as the Distinguished Flying Cross from King George VI. He continued service as instructor on Lancaster and Halifax bombers. He was discharged on August 21, 1945 and upon discharge he graduated from the University of Toronto, secured a Teaching Certificate and taught until retirement. He married two weeks after returning home from service and raised four children. Kenneth has been a member of Simcoe Legion Branch 79 for 20 years.
