255 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND JOHNSTON, Gordon E. L. Gordon was born on October 18, 1924 in Oshawa, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on June 26, 1944. He received his basic training in Brantford and Camp Borden. He served with the Royal Regiment of Canada, 2nd Division in Holland and Germany during World War II. Gordon was discharged in March 1946. In civilian life, he worked for General Motors for 33 years and married Jean in 1948. JOHNSTON, William H. William was born on March 25, 1923 in Oshawa, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1943. He served with Stormont Dundas Glengary Highlanders in France during World War II. William was killed in action on September 7, 1944 in France. He is buried in Calais Memorial Cemetery in France. JOHNSTON, James Karl Karl was born on October 3, 1913 in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on March 10, 1943. He served as an Able Seaman during World War II on Subchaser Q102, out of Halifax, NS. He was discharged on September 25, 1945. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. Karl passed away on April 27, 1997.
