249 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND JENKINS, Gordon T. Gordon was born on June 28, 1979 in St. Marys, ON. He enlisted in the Army on April 16, 1996. He served at the Canadian Forces Station Leitrim with the Communications & Electronics Branch. He began his career with the Reserve Electronic Warfare Squadron at Canadian Forces Base Kingston, ON. After five years with the reserves, he transferred to the regular forces as a Land Communication Information Systems technician. The Army is in his blood, as his grandfather served for 32 years in the artillery and as a military fire fighter and his father served 37 years as a Communicator Research Operator and Signals Officer. JOHNS, Gordon M. Gordon was born on May 20, 1940 in Toronto, Ontario. He served in the Army. Gordon has been a member of Maple Leaf Legion Branch 266 for 40 years. JEWELL, Robert M. Robert was born on September 3, 1922 in Goderich, ON. He enlisted in the Army on August 25, 1942. He was assigned to the 12th Manitoba Dragoons, Headquarters Division, which was mobilized as a Reconnaissance Battalion. Trooper Jewell spent his time with the Manitoba Dragoons as the driver of the light armoured car known as the Staghound where his unit was involved in the landing at Normandy, July 1944 and credited with Liberations of many towns such as Ostend, Belgium. He was involved in many reconnaissance missions, behind enemy lines in Western Europe from his landing in Normandy until his discharge in February 1946. He served in England, France and Belgium during World War II. He was discharged on February 1, 1946. He was a member of Goderich Legion Branch 109. Robert passed away on August 25, 2004.
