237 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HOUGHTON, Peter W. Peter was born in St. Helen, Lancashire, England on May 21, 1891. He enlisted in the Army on September 22, 1914. He came to Canada in 1906, where he was very active with the Salvation Army. He was wounded in 1918. Upon returning to civilian life, he did hospital work. In 1939, he enlisted for World War II, where he did hospital work at Camp Borden and Derbert, NS Military Hospital. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, the Military Medal and bar, the 1914-15 Star, the General Service Medal, and the Victory Medal. He was a member of Galt Legion Branch 121. Peter passed away on February 1, 1972. HUFFMAN, Albert Clare Albert was born on May 3, 1922 in Brantford, ON. He enlisted in the Army in December 1942. He served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada in England, Canada, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany during World War II. He landed on Juno Beach, then to St. Lambert through to Hochwald Forest, Germany where he was wounded by enemy fire and lost his left eye. He was discharged on June 28, 1945. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery on May 24, 1946 along with the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal, and the 1939-45 War Medal. He was also awarded the Confederation Medal, the French Normandy Medal, and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Albert has been a member of Wagner Memorial Legion Branch 526 for 61 years. HUBEL, James R. James was born on April 6, 1938 in Cornwall, ON. He enlisted in the Army. He served with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment for two and a half years as Lance Corporal. He moved to Toronto and joined the 29 Field Regiment, which was later formed into the 7th Toronto Regiment. He served in nearly every regimental appointment and commanded the Regiment twice. He later served in a variety of Headquarter appointments, commanded the Militia Officers Training School and other training schools. He also served as Honorary Lieutenant Colonel and Honorary Colonel. He was a Deputy Chief Aide de Camp for four Lieutenant Governors of Ontario. James has been a member of Fort York Legion Branch 165 for 34 years and was Branch President in 2004.
